Tips to Stay Motivated

Not everyone needs help with motivation, some people just seem to be the steam engine that chugs up hills as if they aren’t there.  At some point in life though, either you or someone you know will need some help with motivation.

Life has a way of interfering us while we are going after our dreams. It distracts us from pursuing things that really matter and even convinces us that nothing really matters. It can attract us to adopt a defeatist attitude – lacking on enthusiasm and interest – ultimately sapping out our sense of purpose.

How to Fire Up Your Drive

It happens to all of us. One day, we just wake up lacking the energy to do anything.  Not wanting to go out of bed, not wanting to stay in it either.  That’s normal.  That’s the stuff of life, so to speak.

It’s not normal:

  • To get entangled with lack of energy, lack of drive, lack of motivation.
  • To continuously talk yourself into the act of not doing anything.

But what do you do when all the drive inside of you are purged out?  Maybe you can begin with the following recommendations.

Think of the worst-case scenario - We have all been told that envisioning success is a good motivator.  Now, why not do the exact opposite?  Why not envision a future that is bleak, hopeless and stripped off all happiness and success.  Why not envision yourself living eternally in a rut where sense of accomplishment and a tiny hope are nonexistent?  Hmmm…..  Call me crazy but that can usually get me a at least a little motivated to do something.

Motivation is intriguing. Sometimes, you need something big like a life events to turn you around – and sometimes, you only need a tiny motivator – a cute saying on a poster – to make you feel like you have to power to call your own shots.

It’s funny, I remember in school being lazy……  My first job I was always on time and liked the people, I wasn’t lazy.  But then in my early 20′s I had a few bouts with laziness.  I finally found my internal motivation….  Winning…….  Yep, gold ole plain butt kicking other people……  Especially in sales and motivating others to over achieve for me……

Motivation is a Daily Battle in Your Mind

Motivation is a funny, complex thing.  You heard me talk about “pushing a wet noodle” in the last blog post, and how I have pushed “wet noodles” more than once.

The thing that motivates one person is always different from that of another even though they might be working for the same thing.  And while people can motivate other people, they can only do so to a certain degree.  This is very true!  While some of us are powerful motivators and appeal to 70-80% of people, we can’t motivate everyone, and there are some people out there who can’t even motivate a slug to move to a greener leaf!!

Rules of Motivation

Self motivation is huge………  An enormous challenge in all stages of life and in all arenas.  Whether it’s exercise, diet choices, looking for a new job, or excelling at the job you have.

Over the years I have seen many people who had every skill imaginable to be successful, they lacked one key component, motivation.  I can remember one of my first management jobs in my 20′s, I had an employee who would of made a great manager.  I tried everything to motivate him to do more and try more.

One day, MY manager asked me when I was going to
